For the current 2025 GCSE cohort we are now officially in the year of the upcoming exams.
Therefore, I thought it would be the perfect time to write up a few ways in which revision can be done around this time of the year.
At this point in the year it is important to make sure that you are aware of how many different topics there are in the course. This is to ensure that are no surprises on the day of the exam.
Ideally you should spend January printing off or saving a copy of every single topic that could come up in the exam. The next step is to pick three colours to represent the topics you find easy, ok, and difficult. Over the next couple weeks you should be addressing all topics that are highlighted as difficult.
For example, if you find completing the square difficult, you should write down that on the 22nd of February you will be exploring the topic from start to finish. I would advise you watch a YouTube video on how to complete the square aimed at GCSE students. If the video does not make sense, keep watching videos from different tutors as they all have different approaches to teaching. After watching the video, download a worksheet and give it a go. Once you feel confident without having to look through a textbook or watch a video, run a black line through the topic. You are now set to start the next topic. Keep doing this until you have ticked off all the topics on the list, including the green topics if you have the time.
Now you know how to kickstart January’s revision, check back in February to see what revision could look like to ensure the best possible outcomes on results day.
